Summary of Various Parenting & Youth Support Classes and Groups offered by Family & Children First!

Our trained professionals are offering a variety of highly effective parenting classes specifically designed to fit your family’s individual needs. Additionally, we are offering once a month Parenting Support Groups to all parents/guardians who have completed their Active Parenting Classes.

Active Parenting (children from birth to age 5) – 2 Hour In-Person & Zoom Classes: “First Five Years” is a complete 4-week program that focuses on building a strong foundation between you and your child. It also offers practical techniques on how to encourage positive behavior, addresses choices and consequences, along with special instruction for preparing your child to begin school. Each session contains plenty of video reinforcement in order to bring key points to life, along with practical engagement workshops.

What: 4-week Parenting Classes (0-5 years)

Where: 158 E. Main Street, Xenia, Ohio 45385 & on ZOOM

Cost: $18.00 (for cost of materials)

Active Parenting (children ages 5 to 12) -- 2 Hour In-Person & ZOOM Classes: These comprehensive 6-week classes are designed to help parents/guardians raise happy, well-adjusted, and successful children. These interactive modules cover the basic fundamentals of parenting for children ages 5 through 12 years.

What: 6-week Parenting Classes (5-12 years) 

Where: Xenia Community Center, 1265 West 2nd Street, Xenia, OH 45385 & on ZOOM

Cost: $25.00 (for cost of materials)

Active Parenting (Teenagers ages 13 – 18) – 2 Hour In-Person & ZOOM Classes: Successful communication between parents and teenagers is possible. These 6-week classes are specifically created to help parents/guardians learn effective communication skills and how to understand a teen’s goals, which is key to avoiding power struggles. They also give you the tools to help your teen behave in a responsible way, and how to reduce the risks of teen years including alcohol, drugs, sexuality and violence.

What: 6-week Parenting Classes (13-18 years)

Where: 158 E. Main Street, Xenia, Ohio 54385 & on ZOOM

Cost: $18.00 (for cost of materials)

Parenting Support Group – 1 Hour Monthly ZOOM Sessions: Parents/Guardians who have completed the Active Parenting Classes will be able to join our Monthly Support Group. These sessions will be divided into two age brackets: one for parents with children ages 0-12, and the other for those having 13 to 18-year-old teenagers. This Support Group is designed for parents who may need support, where they can share ideas, and also receive or offer encouragement, along with share their success stories. 

Who: Parents/guardians

What: 1 hour each month (alternating days and times for different age brackets)

Cost: FREE of charge

YouthMOVE Ohio (for Youth ages 12-18) – In-Person: This program is driven by our core belief that youth should have input and deserve to be heard. Our local chapter is committed to raising awareness regarding youth issues and reducing stigma, taking an active role in the community and networking with other youth, developing leadership skills through empowerment and involvement, and advocating youth to drive system change. *If interested in participating see the link below for February and March, 2023 “Advocacy Through Art” Scheduled Events.

Who: Youth ages 12-18

What: Various activities being hosted monthly

Why Try (Youth of all Ages) -Coming Soon: These exciting in-person classes change students from unmotivated to engaged, from failing to graduating, from feeling hopeless to becoming resilient. These 10-week classes for youth of all ages offers ten visual metaphors covering important life skills that are reinforced through relevant music, videos, learning activities and journals.
